And while I am at it ----- (See Safety around the Barn) One of the many positive aspects of building larger stalls is that horses are less likely to "box walk" and act agitated when housed in stalls measuring from around 15'x15' upwards.

Without wanting to tread on toes, (Horse Trainers can be touchy on occasions), I would suggest you try this if you haven't already. Hang a hay bag or place a biscuit of hay on the ground in every corner of the stall and one near the door as well. (Never use hay nets, they are an accident waiting to happen but more on that some other time). You may observe that over time the horse will pause and forage, pause and forage and this helps to "break" the repetitive "vice" the horse has developed when stabled. In my opinion, stabled horses should have access to good quality hay at all times. Many repetitive behavioral habits are developed because of boredom and the need of the horse to be able to eat when necessary, and that means at any time and often throughout the day and the night.

My parents have a racehorse in training and every time we attend stable visits he is almost always walking up and down or around and around his box and yes, he does act agitated. The trainer says he has tried all manner of ways to stop him but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
