Indications are it will be about three months before champion 3 Year Old pacer Auckland Reactor can be trained again. Co-trainer Mark Purdon said that he, his stable veterinary consultant Dr. Bill Bishop and Professor Joe Mayher have had detailed and productive discussions concerning the superstar's predicament. Auckland Reactor was struck down by co-ordination problems in his hind quarters which forced the immediate termination of exercise and an enforced convalescence period of 12 weeks.

Professor Mayher prescribed no immediate treatment as such, but largely agreed that the colt had become cast in his box, perhaps hurting his neck which in turn placed pressure on the spinal cord.

"He suggested that the colt be boxed for six weeks and only walked out under control for brief intervals during the day, followed by another six weeks out in the paddock." said Purdon.
